The Yankees announced via press release that 2009 postseason ticket pricing for playoff games at Yankee Stadium will not be sharply increase the cost of attending the playoff game this year.
The press release touted that prices for “the vast majority” of postseason tickets will in fact be less than those for equivalent seating for the ‘07 playoffs at the old Yankee Stadium, according to a news release.
American League Division Series tickets for full-season ticket licensees (not including suites) will cost the same as regular-season tickets, and full-season ticket licensees of $325 Field Level seats will only pay $275 for the ALDS.
In ‘07, the club charged 30-130 percent more for seats in the ALDS compared to the regular season.
For full-season ticket licensees, prices will range from $5-$275 per ticket for the ALDS, $10-$350 for the AL Championship Series and $50-$425 for the World Series.
Full-season suite licensees in the Legends Suite, Delta Sky360 Suite and Jim Beam Suite — all of whom have already paid their suite license fees — will pay $65-$275 per suite ticket for the ALDS, $115-$350 for the ALCS and $150-$425 for the World Series.
For each postseason game, the first opportunity to purchase tickets is provided to season-ticket holders, which represents more than 37,000 fans. The Yankee Stadium capacity is 50,235, excluding standing room.
In addition, Major League Baseball directs clubs to dedicate approximately 5,500 tickets per ALDS game, 7,000 per ALCS game and 9,500 per World Series game for players of the participating clubs and to accommodate the media.
Non-suite tickets for public sale will range from $5-$375 for the ALDS, $10-$400 for the ALCS and $50-$425 for the World Series. A handling fee will be added in all cases.
A public-sale date has not been announced.

The Yankees lost the first eight games versus the Red Sox in 2009 but the Yankees have reversed the trend by now defeating the Red Sox 20-11 and have won the past five meetings. The Red Sox and Yankees will complete their three game series tomorrow. They Yankees now have an almost insurmountable seven and a half game lead over the Red Sox in the American League East division.
The New York Yankees and New York Mets continue their interleague Subway Series beginning tonight in what will be the first of a three game series at New Yankees Stadium. The teams begin play tonight with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. tonight, first pitch at 4:10 on Saturday and 1:05 on Sunday. The Yankees and the Mets will meet again at Citi Field June 26th-28th. The Yankees are still sore from being swept by the Boston Red Sox three games straight at Fenway Park. It will be very interesting how many of the high priced seats located near homeplate are empty as well as how many home runs both teams hit.
